Copy of My Acoustic Queen Cover - Under Pressure
Freddie Mercury is one of my favorite singers. He is a man who sang with the essence of his true creativity, passion and sensuality. Freddie was my definition of a vocally empowered singer.
In honor of Freddie Mercury and to celebrate the Queen movie, Bohemian Rhapsody I decided to arrange an acoustic mash-up version of my favorite Queen/Bowie song, “Under Pressure” along with “I want to Break Free.” As a child, I didn’t really understand it’s meaning–I just felt deep emotion when I listened to the song, which made me want to listen to it over and over again. I didn't really know what I was singing about at all, but now, having the luxury of being able to google the lyrics, I realized I was singing many of them wrong, and also, how important this message still i is today - if not more important! To me, it’s about the struggle we all face to transcend the pressure of a dualistic world obsessed with perfection, and to find the love within, that heals us all. It’s about being true to who we are and not letting the weight of “the world” destroy us. It can be about so many things to so many people.
I have been inspired by Freddie, and his gift of setting his true inner expression FREE...No Matter What. With every ounce of his "Inner Dude-vah Power he once exclaimed, “I won't be a rock star. I will be a legend!”
He proclaimed it, and so it is! I hope you like our acoustic version, and if it speaks to you, please like and share.
The Queen movie, Bohemian Rhapsody was released this past weekend on November 2nd, so of course, I just had to go and see it! Despite everything the critics said, I enjoyed it for a few reasons:
1. Many people idolize this man as he has become an icon, but it was nice to see his back story, the challenges he had in the lifestyle that most singers strive for, and how he evolved into someone who learned to love himself.
2. It was interesting to see how many of the most popular songs were developed and some of the back story. The music in itself and the concert at the end was worth the price of admission.
3. We live in a culture that pretty much worships the greatest singers, but truth is, they are every day people who simply don't give up. Watching an imperfect human who believes in himself enough to realize his dreams is always inspiring, and despite it's imperfections, the movie was able to touch my heart.
